Debbe Rice is the Director of the Handbell Ministry for Becks Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. This ministry includes multicultural and intergenerational choir groups for all ages utilizing the largest set of handbells and handchimes commercially available. Her bronze group, Rejoice Ringers has released two compact discs and been featured in showcase concerts for denominational, regional, national and international events. This past fall semester she was guest conductor of handbells at Concordia University College of Alberta, Canada. This summer marks her third time at Massanetta as a handbell clinician. (Previous years were 2000 and 2007.) She is also a professional singer with Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston.
Debbie is a native of Waynesboro, VA, and attended music camp as a youth at Massenetta Springs. She graduated from James Madison University with a major in music. For her master’s degree she was awarded a scholarship for study in opera and musical theatre at Southern Illinois University–Carbondale. She has also studied early music and conducting. Debbie travels frequently as a festival conductor and clinician for national and international events which have included Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan. Plans are in the works for Israel in 2013.
With the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, she is a popular clinician and conductor for national events. She has held elected offices on AGEHR’s National Board as Area Chair, Area Representative to the Executive Committee, National Secretary, and the National Presidential cycle. Currently Debbie is Executive Director for the International Handbell Committee.
